Mandi Kay
Pediatric Nurse Practitioner
Undergraduate at the University of Georgia – B.S. Dietetics (I originally wanted to be a Registered Dietician). I then went on to work at CHOA in the Nutrition & Lactation departments, which is where I learned that I wanted to be more directly involved in patient care beyond just the scope of nutrition and that I did NOT like the inpatient hospital setting because you have to say, “bye! I hope I never see you again”…because we don’t want them to come back to the hospital! I became a medical assistant and started working at Vickery Pediatrics, where I met my favorite physician, Dr. Lindara Halloran (or as I like to call her, Doc Hal), who encouraged me to become a Nurse Practitioner
Graduated at the Emory University – B.S. Nursing & MSN Nursing. I did 1 year of experience as a provider and 7 years of experience in pediatrics. Empathy, listening, & humility: so much of working in pediatrics is not only caring for the kids, but listening to the parents who are the biggest advocates for our patients. You need to put yourself in the shoes of the parent who was up all night with their crying child and didn’t get any sleep and take that into account as you’re interacting and caring for their child. I also believe that the best providers are the ones that are humble enough to admit when they don’t know everything (because you cannot know everything!) and are willing to go find the answer.
